A Pilgrimage to Montreux, The Queen Studios, Freddie Mercury’s Statue and the Swiss Alps

I love my job! Especially when I get to spend a week in one of the most beautiful countries in the world…Switzerland.

It has been on my bucket list to visit Montreux for a number of years to visit the ski resort I went to as a child (Leysin, skiing with my school), the Queen Studio Experience and to see the statue of Freddie Mercury.

The main reason for going there was to shoot a ton of stock footage and video for the many libraries that I am a member of. The plan is to visit a lot more cities and locations like this in the future.

Aerial Video for Dorset Country Wedding

Fluffy clouds, blue skies and light winds…

…perfect for flying the drone shooting aerial video at a wonderful Dorset country wedding yesterday.

As well as shooting stills and standard footage at a wedding, every now and again I am asked to provide just the aerials for weddings and other events…who am I to refuse.

Lovely people, great location and warm weather perfectly suited to flying the drone both at the bride’s house and the church as well as the reception venue in a field later on.

Here is a short bunch of clips that I put together for the couple prior to them flying off on honeymoon…

Promotional Video in a Hurry Please!!!

12 Hour Rush Job Requested for Conference in Germany

A couple of weeks ago, at 9pm, I received a phone call from a gentleman that runs a helicopter company with an urgent request.

He was going to Germany tomorrow to speak at a conference the following day and needed a promotional video for the local helipad in Weymouth/Portland.

The idea was to promote the helipad to prospective clients looking to rent, use and land there and the spec was simply to show off the runway, the hangar, the landing pad and the facilities. I had to be there at 10am the following morning to start filming regardless of weather.

That night I charged all my batteries, checked the drone (UAV) and made the usual safety checks and risk assessments and got all my camera gear ready not really knowing what I would need.

The weather was a bit hit and miss with regards to the sun and the wind was just about flyable for the drone. In between clouds, I got the drone airborne and got the shots I needed before the helicopter took off for its display.

I then filmed the interior of the hangar, the boardroom/meeting room, the kitchen and the lounge area.

Once I was certain I had everything I needed, I headed home to start editing and looking for suitable music etc as the finished video needed to be uploaded and sent to Germany by 9pm that night.

Finally got it done and I think I sent the email with link at around 9:02pm…job done and apparently it went down well with everyone at the conference.

Purbeck Shooting School 50th Anniversary Shooting Competition

Come to Lulworth Castle and Join the Fun!

June 2017 sees the FITASC 50th Anniversary shooting competition being held at the prestigious Lulworth Estate in Dorset. This promises to be a huge event with hundreds of competitors so I was asked to put a promotional video together for the Purbeck Shooting School who are helping to organise the event along with FITASC.

I needed to show the extensive grounds around Lulworth Castle where the competition will be held as well as showing off what Dorset has to offer for the shooters coming to the Jurassic Coast for a longer stay.

I had a lot of fun getting involved with the team and must say, I am tempted to get involved myself at some point in the future!

Aerial and Ground Filming for Dorset Country Campsite Promotional Video

Higher Moor Farm Campsite is a superb, high quality, clean and peaceful campsite in the quiet countryside but only minutes from Weymouth’s town and beach. It was awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for the second year in a row in 2016 and has undergone even more refurbishments making it one of Weymouth’s premiere camp sites.

I was asked to put a short, promotional video together for the team at Higher Moor Farm so once the weather had improved, I headed on over there with drone and ground cameras to set about filming the site. The campsite has ample space for many caravans and tents as well as some really nice static, private and high quality pods (for couple and families alike) that epitomise glamping.

Also on-site is a very high quality, “spic and span” shower and toilet block as well as a well stocked games room for the kids (and dads) to play in. Filming from Sunrise to Sunset with 2800 Crazy Athletes in Dorset

Earlier this year (2016) I was asked to film the aerial video for the annual Iron Man competition in Weymouth. The day was amazing and started with a beautiful sunset as 2,800 crazy fit people ran into the sea to start the event.

Night Aerial Video in Dorset (With Fireworks)!

Aerial Video Shoot at Sherborne Castle Fireworks Display Nov 5th

Man, I love my job! The wonderful and incredibly professional Events Crew in Sherborne contacted me recently to ask if I would film their annual fireworks display at the beautiful Sherborne Castle…of course, challenge accepted!

I have recently added night flying to my operations manual with the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) so I am fully insured with permission to fly at night. I use additional lights on the drone, which incidentally, were so bright, all the Events Crew team could see the drone through 20 minutes of fireworks and from over half a kilometer away!

Not only did I fly the drone to film the fireworks, I also filmed the crew getting the site ready throughout the day and filmed people arriving and having fun prior to the display. During the main event, I also set up numerous cameras on the ground to ensure that I captured the complete awesomeness of this event.

If you haven’t been to Sherborne Castle Bonfire Night at the castle, I can highly recommend it. Here is the finished video…

Filming a £150,000 Tree House in Dorset

Book This Fabulous, Luxury Tree-house for Holidays and Getaways in Dorset (as seen on Channel 4/George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces)

I recently had the pleasure of filming Guy Mallinson and his incredible Woodman’s tree house in Holditch, West Dorset (click images below for larger view).

It had been an idea in Guy’s head for many years and in 2016, he finally achieved his dream. The tree house, which is built around (but not touching in order to preserve the Eco-system) a large veteran Oak tree, offers a complete “enchanted woodland utopia” coupled with life’s modern luxuries.

When you first enter the forest, you are met with what I could only describe as a Robin Hood style aura about the place. There is a wood workshop nestled near the entrance and a large kitchen and dining area for guests to use with various campers, woodworkers and staff wondering about doing their thing.

Also scattered about the forest, are toilets, showers and a number of guest tents and yurts for a truly back-to-nature glamping experience with the opportunity to attend a woodworking workshop.

I was filming for the huge YouTube Channel from Barcroft TV who have close to 2.5 million subscribers and over 2 billion views!

I had to interview Guy with around 24 questions to camera as well as shooting the interior or the tree-house with all it’s wonderful features as well as the external woodland with some aerial footage.

The tree-house was such an ambitious project, it even made an episode of Channel 4’s Amazing Spaces with George Clarke.
