Things I Like
Manuka honey not only tastes great, but did you know is has so many other qualities you’d be a fool not to have a pot nearby at all times? “Real” Manuka Honey has natural antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties.
One example happened this past Sunday. I had been taking the chicken out of the oven when I burned my thumb and forefinger and was left with that feeling that a blister was inevitable. However, after quickly remembering what I had read about honey and its healing properties, within 10 seconds, I had a dollop in between my thumb and finger and rubbed it in for about 10 minutes.
After that, I washed it off and nothing! No blister, no pain, not even any soreness or redness….amazing! Now, I cannot guarantee this is down to the honey but the results were good and as I mentioned above, Manuka honey is said to have antimicrobial qualities that other honey does not have. I won’t be burning myself again for the sake of bigging up Manuka honey but I will certainly do the same again should myself or my family have a little burn in the future.
Be aware though, that not all Manuka honey is “active” in this way. Cheap honey from supermarkets that says it contains 50% Manuka honey won’t cut it. Truly active Manuka honey must have a certified UMF (Unique Manuka Factor…original huh!) rating of 10 or more…we use +15.
So, aside from helping with burns and tasting bloody lovely, what else can Manuka honey do? Here is a list of the benefits to adding Manuka Honey to your diet:
For me, Manuka honey is a superfood along with those wonderful eggs I eat every day! Do yourself a favour, research Manuka honey more online and grab yourself a tub of 15+ strength or higher…the cost is well worth it! I buy my New Zealand honey via Amazon (just check out those reviews)!
