Japanese Restaurant in Dorchester

Healthy Eating in Dorset Japanese Style!

We recently visited the Wagamama’s Japanese Restaurant in Dorchester which is nestled in the new Brewery Square…Wow!

The whole area was still not finished during our visit but it is set to be one of the nicest new places for a day/night in South/West Dorset (IMO).

We have been to the Plaza Cinema in Dorchester before but not really explored anything else but as a belated treat for Sonia’s (my wife’s) birthday, we all went to see the latest “Epic” movie for the kids followed by a meal at Wagamama’s.

The restaurant is beautiful inside with a clean and relatively basic style to the seating and layout. The service was excellent and the food was out of this world.

I have been on a real health kick for the past few months and was wondering what the menu’s would have to suit my new “fussy” taste but it couldn’t have been better.

Along with all the usual suspects such as:

  • Beer
  • Wine
  • Soft Drinks (coke, water, ginger beer)
  • Hot Drinks (tea, coffee, hot chocolate)

…they also have an amazing selection of Japanese and health drinks such as:

  • Peach iced tea
  • Sparkling elderflower
  • Sparkling ginger and lemongrass
  • Asahi super dry beer
  • Kirin ichiban beer
  • Tiger beer
  • Saki and plum wine
  • Teas: Darjeeling earl grey, green tea (free!), jasmine flowering tea, lemon and ginger tea, liquorice and mint tea, peppermint tea
  • Juices: Apple, mint, celery + lime juice, mango, apple and orange juice, fresh blueberry, apple and ginger juice, fresh apple and orange juice, strawberry, apple, orange and mint juice

The food was amazing with so much choice such as:

  • Side dishes
  • Ramen
  • Teppanyaki
  • Curry dishes
  • Donburi
  • Chilli dishes
  • Salads
  • Desserts
  • …and kids dishes

Many of the dishes and juices contain some very healthy ingredients including some of my favourite “super foods” so the choices were plentiful, even for me!

The whole experience was extremely good and the service was second to none. We got there early which is recommended as it wasn’t long before the place was heaving, including two of the comedians from “Mock the Week”…one of our favourite comedy quiz shows.

Just outside the restaurant is the main square which hosts a large “wet” area with numerous water fountains that the kids can play in. We told our kids after they had finished eating that they could just go outside to watch the other kids playing…yeah right!

Much to the amusement of the other diners in the restaurant, within 5 minutes our kids were drenched from head to foot…

Wagamama’s in Dorchester – Highly recommended restaurant!
