Aerial Filming for Iron Man Weymouth
Aerial Filming from Sunrise to Sunset with 2800 Crazy Athletes in Dorset
Iron Man 70.3 was held in Weymouth, Dorset in 2016. The race is a single transition, late season race with a seaside gateway. It is also "first timer friendly" so everyone is welcome. Having hosted the London 2012 sailing events and with a stunning beach and countryside location, Weymouth is the perfect location for the Iron Man competition.
Earlier this year (2016) I was asked to film the aerial video for the annual Iron Man competition in Weymouth. The day was amazing and started with a beautiful sunset. I took off and started filming as 2,800 crazy fit people ran into the sea to start the event.
Here is the official Weymouth Iron Man 2016 video with some of those aerials…superb!
Filming Iron Man Weymouth from the Air
Obviously all the protocols, safety checks and risk assessments were done prior to take off. Once in the air, I had to make sure that safety was my first priority. Flying over crowds of 1000 people or more was prohibited by the CAA without prior permission. Therefore, keeping 150m away at all times was necessary.
Regardless, knowing how to fly with tight deadlines, over water and around hundreds of people helped make this a memorable job. If you need your sports event covered, I now shoot in 4K RAW. RAW footage is perfect for TV and film work as the bit depth and quality is incredible.
I also have access to other qualified pilots to assist where needed so please get in touch.
