Aerial Video for a Short Film in Swanage
Cutting through the wind on a cliff edge set and location
I spent all day last Saturday on set with a great bunch of people shooting a short film. My job was to provide aerial video for the movie "Cliff Edge" despite the strong winds. I am always surprised at just how much wind the DJI drones can withstand whilst producing solid, stable and high quality footage.
Weather for Aerial Video
One week prior to the shoot, the weather was looking horrendous so we needed to keep an eye on it. As the week went on, the weather calmed. For the 3 days of filming, except for one sharp downpour, the weather stayed sunny with some stunning clouds and golden skies.
The wind for the cliff top shoot was perfect. Sunny, dramatic clouds and wind. Whilst the wind wasn't perfect for drones, it made the scene work well as the actors' clothes blew about whilst filming. Every cloud and all that : )
The Crew
The film was written and directed by Ann Hawker, and produced by Rupert Bryan and Shelagh McLeod. The rest of the team were totally on point the whole time I was with them and it was a pleasure to spend the day with these guys.
The Cliff Edge Location
My participation was needed at the critical part of the film, a cliff edge (hence the title ; ). We didn't get too close to the edge as the main actress was in her mid 70's but we were close enough. Durlston Country Park is a stunning place to visit so if visiting Dorset, I would highly recommend spending a few hours rambling here.
It's a Wrap!
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable day. Cliff Edge has now been shot and next comes the lengthier edit and production process. I look forward to seeing the end product and will add a link to the film here when received.
More of this type of work please : )
