FPV Drone Pilot Dorset
As a FPV Drone Pilot, I am able to capture incredible video footage from a "first person" perspective
What is FPV?
FPV stands for First Person View with regards to flying drones. If you ever played computer games as a child (or adult) where you had to wear goggles, this is pretty much the same. Rather than flying drones using actual sight of the drone, FPV drones are flown purely using goggles for navigation. This means for commercial jobs, a second "spotter" is needed for safety...but it's worth it!
How does FPV drone video differ from my standard drone video?
A standard drone will capture stunning aerial video akin to having a tripod in the sky with wheels on. It will move across the sky, slowly or quickly, on a level plain with panning left or right and up and down camera movements. It's like driving a Bentley. Methodical, safe, comfortable and high quality.
A FPV drone on the other hand is more akin to an Ariel Atom car.
Until now, FPV drones have been wild with very few safety features and requiring soldering skills and flying capabilities similar to those required by the RAF. However, technology has moved to a point where this genre of drone flying is fast becoming a highly sought after skill.
Rather than the camera moving up or down, a FPV drone will actually fly up or down...or perform barrel rolls, flips, loops and even fly directly up or down the side of a building. They are incredibly agile.
The FPV Drone Pilot
An FPV drone pilot needs to be sharp, skilled, attentive and focused because these things are also very fast. They are perfect for capturing:
FPV Drone Pilot Costs
Because flying FPV drones requires two people by law, obviously the cost will increase. Also, FPV drones have a higher chance of collision and damage so the insurance can be higher. Both equipment and indemnity insurance. However, fees are still very reasonable and the footage you can get for your commercial project will blow your competition out of the water!
This tech is VERY new so FPV footage will soon start to flood the market. Along with that, I can guarantee there will be inexperienced pilots adding this to their services and that can be worrying. I have 7 years experience flying drones in all manner of places and conditions. The transition for me is much easier than it is for a novice pilot.
I spent many hours flying FPV in a computer simulator before even attempting to fly a FPV drone for real.
Because this is new to my business, I have no current footage to show you. However, I soon will have. I also have a job in June (under NDA) that I can't say too much about but the FPV drone is perfect for that job so video samples will be forthcoming.
