Storm Eunice at Portland Bill (Video)
If you can't hide from it, shoot it!
It was inevitable that I was going to head off to Portland when the storm struck. After the last time with Storm Ciara, it just had to be done.
Stronger than the great storm of '87
I had just moved to London when the hurricane of 1987 that wasn't meant to happen happened. I'm pretty sure from what I saw yesterday, as well as on the news etc, this storm was as strong, if not stronger.
For sure I have certainly not seen the seas around Portland Bill this crazy in my 15 years of living in Weymouth. I reckon it is Mother Nature kicking our arses and telling us to behave whilst trying to throw all that plastic back onto land!
Check out the 3m video below:
The storm ended up creating a lot of damage and sadly there were some deaths from falling trees. I came pretty close to being hit myself.
At the end of the video, you will see some damage that I drove past near my home. I stopped the car and pulled the steel sheets out of the road. As I did, another sheet flew away from the wall and landed right next to me with a crash!
Irresponsible
Some may say I was irresponsible by going to Portland in such weather. However, there were people my age and older, and people way younger (children), enjoying Mother nature at her best/worse.
Also, I take calculated risks. The wind was blowing inland so not much chance of me getting blown out to or into the sea and there was nothing around the lighthouse that could break away and cause anyone any harm.
Everyone there was responsible, careful and having fun!
What a sight Storm Eunice was!
