Video and Drone Lessons for Beginners

Drone and Video Courses UK and Dorset

Learning about autonomous flight with the DJI Mini 3 drone

I recently had the pleasure of spending two days teaching the basics of video and drone flying to Nina from Bulgaria, pictured above, here in Weymouth, Dorset. Nina is a lover of the arts and has recently started a personal blog documenting not just art galleries but her thoughts on life, inspiration and motivation.

She wanted to be able to express and promote these topics using more professional video techniques. Nina had already started a YouTube channel and was hosting the videos on her blog but just needed some guidance on how to make her videos pop!

Basic Video Lessons for Beginners

The two day training started with going right back to basics. Learning about:

  • The best camera for beginners and creatives
  • Which camera settings to use for professional video
  • What video and camera accessories are needed to enhance her videos
  • Simple video techniques, tips and tricks to add a professional look to videos
  • Learning some video editing techniques to compliment the footage
  • Discovering the importance of shooting RAW in photography
  • Lots more...

I like to teach in a way that is easy to understand whilst repeating tougher lessons throughout the course. That way, information tends to stay in the mind and the answers can be triggered later on when practising at home. Even so, I am always here for my students if they have questions later on, "post course".

Nina takes control of the drone whilst learning about the "follow me" feature

I was particularly impressed with how quickly Nina picked up the art of drone flying. After a short run through of what each stick, button and dial does in the office, followed by another run through on site, Nina got to fly her first drone, the DJI Mini 3 Pro, and did exceptionally well.

I use the DJI Mini 3 Pro drone for training for a few reasons:

Weight

01

The DJI Mini 3 weighs under 250g so it is, in effect, a toy. This means it isn't subject to laws & regulations attached to larger drones. Great for learning to fly.

Quality

02

The Mini 3 also shoots incredible 4k video and takes stunning RAW photos. This makes it a no brainer drone for beginners and even professionals.

Easy to Fly

03

With all the modern tech included, the DJI Mini 3 is easy to fly for beginners with a number of built-in safety features should things get scary : )

Overall the two day course was a success and Nina was a pleasure to teach. She went away with a greater understanding of what camera she could buy that suited her personal needs along with a new found love for the creativity and inspiration that drones can bring. I look forward to seeing some of Nina's future videos.
