Website Building and Maintenance

Modern and Current Website Requirements

Website building and maintenance requirements, legal aspects, readability recommendations and systems have changed a lot of the years. Building and hosting a website online these days requires a lot more attention than simply using a free website-building host to "throw something together". Inevitably you will waste a lot of time and end up only having to have it re-done in the future. Do it right first time!

Website Building, Updates and Maintenance

Your Website Needs You!

It has always been regarded that the garden shed is a “safe haven” for men. Usually married men. A place in which they can tinker and faff about to their heart's content. I am using this folk-lore-of-sorts to try and explain the importance of website maintenance when it comes to your business presence online.

As a company owner or director, you should see your website as the main hub of activity away from your offline clients. Of course, real contact with real people in business can never be bettered but the next best thing, the gateway for new business or contact point for existing clients, should be your website. Your “domain”.

Think of it as a storefront or shop window on the high street. Your homepage needs to be:

  • Informative (what is its purpose?)
  • Inviting (makes you want to enter)
  • Easy to navigate (find what you want quickly and easily)

By following these and other guidelines, you should not only attract new customers, but keep the old ones coming back.

Experiment and Update: It is a living beast, neglect it at your peril

Don't Neglect Your Website

Also see your website as your garden shed, a place to tinker and try out new ideas. Somewhere you can see things happening in real time.

The beauty of the web as a marketing tool is that it brings instant results and feedback…both good and bad allowing you to tweak your business for optimum results.

Google, the behemoth of the online world, places great importance these days on how a website is “tended”. They have laid out new and important rules for webmasters to follow if they want to move up the rankings. Or at the very least, remain where they are.

There are certain things that need to be done (or recommended that you do). That is in order for your site to stay current and “interactive” with your readership. A site that gets neglected will slowly decay and fall through the search engine rankings and eventually move out of reach.

"Help us build our shed"!

I would love to.

Part of the new structure I am building into my business is a full web service. This may include a number of different services geared around the internet and websites in general and how much you get involved is up to you.

For example, I could:

  • Build a basic, 5-10 page website for you to simply start your online presence or campaign
  • Create a more interactive and dynamic website with ongoing maintenance and assistance
  • Build your website and help with your first digital product (eBook/membership site/DVD)
  • Teach you how to do it yourself

The reason I have included number four in there, the DIY method, is that I understand times are hard. Cash flow may be tight and some businesses may want to take control from the start. To save money, this particular service involves me teaching you everything you need to know to build your own dynamic super-site.
